I like seeing the categories, but I've decided it's not something I enjoy anymore. And the funny part is that I didn't even look at the reports all that often-just whenever I was curious about where I was spending my money, overall. I tell you, my obsession with tracking every penny was almost like a sickness. Yes, that thread is perfect and has cleared things up. You can just ignore that batch of downloaded transactions and delete them one by one if they are already reconciled in your register. I have found the matching usually works based off the exact amount and a 1-2 day window date range similarity.Īlso, when you connect an account with online updates for the first time, Quicken will download a range of transactions on the first go (say the last three months) and try to "match" those transactions with transactions already in your register that are not yet reconciled. If you already have entered the transactions manually, Quicken is pretty smart about "matching" them so the downloaded transaction just reconciles with the manually entered one. That way, you will get a list of downloaded transactions that you can then quickly add, one by one, to your register. In your case, you might want to un-check "automatically add to banking registers". Under Edit > Preferences > Downloaded Transactions you have a few options. So in Quicken, is there a way for me to just set up the account for online updates and let the software figure out what's missing? Or maybe I would be better off just starting over with a whole new Quicken file? I don't want to take the second option because I have a lot of accounts set up.

I've been using financial software (MS Money and Quicken) for a long time, but I've always gone the manual entry route for most things and I would carefully categorize receipts so I could even see how much I was spending on sales tax, how much change I found walking across a parking lot, etc.
